Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County is seeking input from agricultural operators and agricultural workers to better understand their housing needs, preferences, and experiences across our local agricultural community.

As part of the County’s ongoing exploration of potential Land Use Code changes related to agricultural worker housing, two surveys are now available: one for agricultural operators (those who own and operate a farm or ranch business) and one for agricultural workers (those who work on a farm or ranch operation in Boulder County).

This information will help inform potential Land Use Code changes related to agricultural worker housing and may also help inform broader discussions around funding and developing agricultural worker housing solutions.

Both surveys are available in English and Spanish and will remain open through October 30, 2026. Additional outreach is also being conducted to make participation more accessible. Surveys are available online (computer and phone-friendly). Printed copies are available for drop-off and pick-up upon request.

Background

On March 3, 2026, the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners authorized Community Planning and Permitting staff to explore whether updates to the Boulder County Land Use Code could better support safe, practical, and appropriately scaled housing opportunities for agricultural workers.

Agricultural workers play an essential role in supporting Boulder County’s local food system. However, agricultural employers have consistently identified housing availability, affordability, and regulatory limitations as challenges to recruiting and retaining the workforce needed to sustain local agricultural operations.
