China Calls for Trade Restraint Following Trump’s Threat to Spain
Trump’s comments followed criticism of Madrid, which he accused of failing to cooperate sufficiently regarding American military bases, as tensions continue to mount in the Middle East.
Responding to the remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in Beijing that “The US-Israeli military actions against Iran violate international laws, and trade should not be instrumentalized or weaponized,” according to reports.
Spanish authorities dismissed Trump’s accusations, emphasizing that Spain remains an active member of NATO and meets its alliance obligations while playing a meaningful role in safeguarding European territorial security.
Earlier in the week, Madrid also clarified that the United States has neither utilized nor plans to utilize Spanish military facilities to launch strikes against Iran.
Meanwhile, military operations by the United States and Israel have persisted since last Saturday, with continued air raids on Iran. According to reports, the attacks have resulted in 786 deaths, including schoolgirls, as well as the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Tehran has carried out drone and missile strikes aimed at locations in Gulf countries associated with US interests. These attacks have led to multiple casualties, including the deaths of six American service members and injuries to several others.
