Electric Vehicles Power EU Car Market Growth in November

(MENAFN) The European Union’s passenger car sector expanded by 2.1% in November compared to the same month last year, with 887,491 new vehicle registrations, according to figures released Tuesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

Across Europe — including the EU, the European Free Trade Association, and the United Kingdom — sales climbed 2.4% year-on-year, reaching 1.08 million units.

Among the EU’s largest automotive markets, Spain recorded the strongest growth with a 12.9% rise, followed by the Netherlands at 3.3% and Germany at 2.5%.

Electric models continued to fuel momentum. Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations soared 44.1% compared to last year, totaling 188,730 units and representing 21.3% of all new car sales. Italy posted an exceptional 132.5% increase in BEV sales, while Spain and Germany registered gains of 60.9% and 58.5%, respectively.

Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) reinforced their leading role, making up 34% of the EU market in November. HEV registrations rose 4.2% to 301,819 units. Plug-in hybrid vehicles also showed strong performance, with sales jumping 38.4% to 91,699 units.

By contrast, conventional internal combustion engine cars experienced steep declines. Petrol vehicle registrations dropped 21.9%, reducing their market share to 23.3%.
